Presentation and discussion with different speakers
June 5th 2025, Glashaus, 5pmThe GO Research project aims to establish gender-sensitive research across all disciplines at the University of Bayreuth and has been actively raising awareness about gender aspects in science since January 2024. Now, an initial assessment is being made.
This summer, the GO Research team will host an exciting and informative event to further heighten awareness of the transformative GO Research project on campus. The event at the Glashaus serves as a platform for young researchers and students to engage deeply with the integration of gender aspects and intersectionality in academic research. It also showcases what has been accomplished under the GO Research project umbrella and is open to everyone.
Excellent research requires a gender-sensitive approach. Scientific evidence shows that research that considers only one gender can lead to incomplete results. In recent years, however, the importance of integrating gender-sensitive aspects into academic work has increasingly been recognized. By applying an intersectional lens, researchers can gain a more comprehensive understanding of the diverse experiences of individuals and communities. Including gender and intersectionality in research not only broadens the scope of investigation but also challenges traditional methodologies that may have overlooked certain voices or experiences. This inclusive approach leads to research that better reflects societal complexities and has the potential to contribute to social change and policy making.
GO Research aims to advance this at the University of Bayreuth. So far, four teams have benefited from financial support:
- Exploring Gender Pay Gap in Science
- GOCART – Gender-Oriented Car Acquisition Relationship Testing
- Research Project on AI’s Perception of Gender and the Potential Consequences
- Shifting the Lens: Empowering Gender and Intersectional Sensitive Struggles through Photovoice in Lagos
They will present their experiences at the summer event on June 5th at the Glashaus on campus: Researchers from various fields who have successfully integrated gender considerations within an intersectional framework in their studies will share their experiences with the participants. The speakers will demonstrate how gender and intersectionality have enriched their research and expanded their perspectives, leading to more comprehensive and nuanced insights. The event offers an opportunity to learn firsthand how gender aspects can be woven into research practices within an intersectional framework – whether in designing research questions, data collection methods, or interpreting results. The beneficiaries will explain the challenges they have faced, the strategies they have applied, and the benefits that have arisen from incorporating these important factors.
The event promises to be a valuable learning experience for those interested in how gender and intersectionality shape and enhance research. Whether as students, researchers, or simply individuals interested in gender- and intersectionally inclusive research: We provide the necessary tools and insights to understand and apply these important concepts.

Background: Heart attacks manifest differently in women than in men, and therapy must also differ. Yet, for a long time, only "male" symptoms were queried and healing methods applied, because the research on the topic was primarily based on male data. Or: When Artificial Intelligence is only fed data from men, it will prefer male applicants or male-led companies in personnel selection or investment decisions. Or: Cities and infrastructure can become safer and more mobility-balanced if planning takes into account the living conditions of all people. For this, the science underlying the planning must investigate the mobility needs of all genders and socio-demographic groups. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) supports "GO Research" for five years with approximately 850,000 euros as part of its call "Gender Aspects in View". "GO Research" includes measures targeting students and early career researchers because they will shape research in the coming years and decades and bring about innovations. Theory seminars, workshop discussions, a prize, financial support for research projects, and a certificate at the WiN-Academy.
