Hall of Femmes
With the “Hall of Femmes” campaign, our goal is to give greater visibility to remarkable women from our university community – women who have studied or conducted research here, who are socially engaged, who contribute significantly to gender equality in various ways, or who simply serve as role models for other women.

Heidrun Piwernetz, born in 1962 in Bayreuth, studied law at the University of Bayreuth. Since September 1st 2023, she has served as President of the Bavarian Supreme Audit Office (ORH) in Munich. She is also a member of the Executive Board and the General Council of the Catholic Academy in Bavaria.

Dr. Auma Obama was born and raised in Kenya. She studied in Germany, earned a Master's degree from Heidelberg University, completed her PhD in Intercultural German Studies at the University of Bayreuth in 1996 with a dissertation, and also pursued studies at the University of Film and Television in Berlin.

Prof. Dr. h.c. Ingrid Kögel-Knabner, I (*1958) began studying Geoecology in Bayreuth as part of the very first cohort in 1978 and was one of the first graduates to complete the program in 1983.

Professor Dr. Birgitta Wöhrl has been an academic councillor since 2002 and a professor at the Chair of Biochemistry IV since 2005, including 16 years as a voluntary (university) gender equality officer. Since 2023, she has been working only on a voluntary basis and is otherwise retired.
